About the Role

ACCORD CARE is recruiting experienced Disability Support Workers to support a male participant in Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) in Hemmant, QLD.

The participant has Autism Spectrum Disorder Level 3 and an intellectual disability. He requires structured, consistent, and person-centred support from workers who can communicate clearly, build trust, follow established support plans, and respond calmly to complex situations.

Due to the participant’s individual support needs and preferences, male support workers are required for this participant-specific role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide respectful and person-centred daily support within the participant’s SDA home.
  • Establish a consistent and trusting professional relationship with the participant.
  • Follow the participant’s support plans, routines, risk-management strategies, and Behaviour Support Plan.
  • Support daily living activities, personal care, household routines, and community participation.
  • Recognise potential triggers and use proactive positive behaviour support and de-escalation strategies.
  • Respond safely and professionally to behaviours of concern.
  • Support the participant to communicate his needs, choices, and preferences.
  • Administer medication in accordance with relevant policies, training, and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate progress notes, medication records, and incident reports.
  • Work collaboratively with the participant’s family, support team, and allied health professionals.
  • Promote the participant’s safety, dignity, choice, independence, and quality of life.
  • Follow ACCORD CARE policies, NDIS requirements, and authorised restrictive-practice procedures.

About You

You will be calm, patient, reliable, and confident when supporting a participant with complex needs.

You will also have:

  • Experience supporting participants with Autism Spectrum Disorder Level 3.
  • Experience supporting people with intellectual disability and complex support needs.
  • Experience responding to behaviours of concern and challenging situations.
  • Knowledge of positive behaviour support and restrictive-practice requirements.
  • Experience following Behaviour Support Plans and other participant-specific care plans.
  • A minimum Certificate III in Individual Support, Disability, Mental Health, or  relevant qualification.
  • Strong English communication and documentation skills.
  • A current NDIS Worker Screening Check.
  • A current Working with Children Check, where required.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certificates.
  • An unrestricted Australian driver’s licence and reliable access to a suitable vehicle.
  • Valid Australian working rights.
  • The ability to work consistently, maintain professional boundaries, and collaborate effectively with a broader support team.
